 Team narrows nickname choice to four finalists

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Now taking the field, the Slippery Rock Boulders…or the Rockers…or the Sliders…or the Sluggers. You pick. Those are the four names that emerged as finalists in the name-the-team contest for the Slippery Rock Professional Baseball team. The team, the newest member of the Frontier League, will begin playing at Slippery Rock University’s Jack Critchfield Park this summer.

The official team name will be unveiled the first week of January.

           The four finalist names were selected from among 125 entries of which 84 were unique, said Steve Tahsler, the team’s general manager. The home opener for the team will be May 29 against the Florence Freedom
