» Antarctica expedition provies a 'Rock Solid' learning experience
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Michael Zieg, assistant professor of geography, geology and the environment at Slippery Rock University, knows the meaning of a “Rock Solid” education more than most people. Zieg just returned from a two-week research expedition in Antarctica, where he collected 150 rocks he and SRU geology majors will analyze to learn more about the separation of continents.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s computer science department will host its seventh annual Computer Programming Competition Feb. 20. The competition brings 100 of the region’s brightest high school computer whizzes together to compete for prizes by writing Java programs.

» U.S. Army's 'We Want You' campaign invades Slippery Rock University
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The U.S. Army and Hollywood converged at Slippery Rock University last week to tape an Army recruitment video featuring a former student with supporting roles filled by nearly 20 Rock students. The Army plans to post the three-minute informational video on its Web site.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Bobby Seale, American civil rights activist and former chairman of the Black Panther Party, and  Lee Jones, president and executive editor of InSpire Magazine, will headline activities as Slippery Rock University celebrates Black History Month.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Tickets will be sold at the door when the Pittsburgh Symphony Pops  performs 8 p.m. Feb. 7 at Slippery Rock University’s Miller Auditorium. The concert will feature music interpreting well-known figures in literature, including Romeo and Juliet.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Peter Arnett, best known for his 1991 on-the-scene coverage of the Persian Gulf War bombing for CNN and his TV interview with Osama bin Laden, will visit Slippery Rock University to deliver a free address to the entire University community at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Teena Custer, adjunct dance instructor and 2000 Slippery Rock University graduate, is featured as part of Dance Magazine’s 25 to Watch in its January edition cataloguing the hottest dancers and trends in the country.

» Anna Sokolow dancers to perform free concert Jan. 20 at SRU
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Eight dancers from the Anna Sokolow Archive Company will bring their stirring moves to Slippery Rock University for a free performance Jan. 20 at SRU’s Miller Auditorium. The Boston-based company specializes in choreography exploring past and present social issues.  The performance begins at 8 p.m.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –  Frank Hale, Jr., “Dean of Diversity” and vice provost and professor emeritus at The Ohio State University, and Calvin Mackie, award-winning mentor, motivational speaker and entrepreneur, will deliver addresses when more than 225 Slippery Rock University students return to campus to participate in the fourth annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Day of Service.

» SRU homecoming logo receives CASE award
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s Rocktoberfest homecoming logo has received a Bronze Accolade Award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) organization. The logo placed in the Visual Design in Print-Logos/Nameplates category in the mid-Atlantic region encompassing six states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
