Video installation to open SRU¹s spring semester shows in Martha Gault Art Gallery

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.  A video installation by Carolina Loyola-Garcia, a Chilean media artist working in the U.S. as an assistant professor of media arts at Robert Morris University, opens Slippery Rock University’s spring semester art offerings in the Martha Gault Art Gallery.

The show, located in SRU’s Maltby Center, runs Jan. 22 - Feb. 15, with an artist’s reception planned for 6 - 8 p.m. opening day.

Loyola-Garcia’s work reflects upon such issues as biculturalism, language, technology and post-colonialism, among other topics. Her work ranges from single-channel videos to video installations or 2D digital prints, and has been exhibited in festivals and art shows nationally and internationally.

She studied theater, film and video in Chile, and received her master of fine arts degree from Carnegie Mellon University.

For the past five years she has been teaching media arts as an adjunct professor first at Pittsburgh Filmmakers, then Carlow College, Carnegie Mellon University and University of New Mexico. She has also served as non-resident

studio instructor for the Main College of Art MFA program at Robert Morris. Her experience as an instructor has allowed her to further study and develop in the field of electronic and digital media finding ways to engage students in the

learning of both aesthetic and technical aspects of this art form.

Gault Gallery hours are, noon - 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and 2 - 6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. (Closed weekends and holidays.)
