David Conner

David Conner has been teaching 5h grade in the Pine-Richland school district for the past 4 years. Previous to becoming a public school teacher, Conner worked in several capacities of the classical music field: orchestral percussionist, educational performer, symphony management, and college faculty. Mr. Conner has attended several colleges including IUP, Temple, La Roche, Pitt, and most recently, Slipper Rock University. He has been nominated for the Teacher Excellence award and is a Discovery Educator. Last year, he appeared in an article written by the Tribune Review recognizing his innovative use of technology in the classroom. Conner resides in Mt. Lebanon with his 8-year-old son.

Jane Culmer

Mrs. Culmer received her B.A. in elementary education from Mercyhurst College in Erie, PA. There she completed the Cadet Teacher program, an accelerated teacher preparation program where the teacher candidate completes all major coursework in 2 years and 5 summers, then teaches full-time in their junior and senior years. In the 80’s, she received a P.E.W. Charitable Trust Fellowship for excellence in education and was designated “Master Teacher” to provide several in-service courses for teachers in economics through Gannon University, the Midwestern I.U #4 and BC3. In 1990, she worked at Jennings Environmental Education Center, as an Environmental Education Specialist providing outdoor programming for a variety of ages children through adults. As an Employment Specialist in Sharon City Schools she acquired certification as Professional Resume Writer and later as a Parent Education Specialist in the Mercer Co. Family Center she authored a program called “Where Are the Instructions?” for use in parent education and truancy intervention programs. She has continued her education at Carlow University securing Instructional Technology Specialist and beginning work on a master’s degree in Instructional Technology and Curriculum. Presently she is the Elementary Technology teacher for Slippery Rock Area School District teaching 1st – 5th grade classes at 3 elementary buildings. She has resided in Grove City since 1990 with her husband of 22 years, their 2 boys (21 and 18 years old), a daughter who is 7 years old

Amy Javens

Amy Javens has been an elementary teacher in the Sharon School District for 12 years.  She has taught 3rd grade, 4th grade, and currently teaches kindergarten at Case Avenue Elementary.  Mrs. Javens attended Slippery Rock University where she obtained her B.S. in Education degree.  Amy is certified in Elementary and Early Childhood Education and Principal K-12.  Amy has a Master of Education degree from Westminster College.  A visitor to Amy's kindergarten classroom would see a balanced literacy approach to learning in a developmental appropriate environment.  Amy lives in Hermitage with her husband and three daughters.

Richard Samoros

Mr. Richard Samoros teaches 5th grade at C.M. Musser Elementary in the Sharon City School District, a school in which he attended.  He has been a teacher in the Sharon City School District for seven years.  Rick graduated from Youngstown State University with a degree in Elementary Education.  In addition, he has a master’s degree in administration.  Rick is married with 3 children ages 12, 4, and 2.  Rick is also a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served for 3 years as a medical specialist.

Vincent Thearle

Mr. Vincent Thearle is in his fifth year as an art teacher at Pine Richland High School,  where he teaches Intro to Art and Art History.  Each day, Mr. Thearle takes 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th graders on a journey through the exciting world of Art.  Vince believes that an “Aesthetic Experience” must be at the core of all education and he strives to accomplish this in the classroom.  Vince received his Bachelors of Science in Art Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2002.  He lives in Emsworth with his dog and several vivacious squirrels, which inhabit his property.
