SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University is inviting the entire community to offer information to be used in preparing a Hazard Mitigation Plan that could be implemented should the region be struck by a natural or human-caused disaster.

Couples invited to plan their wedding plunge at Slippery Rock University
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – In the stomach-churning world of wedding planning, the details can often drive brides-to-be to tears. To help reduce the stress, Slippery Rock University is hosting its first “Wedding Showcase” 4 to 7 p.m. March 27. The event will promote the University as a wedding site and connect couples with local photographers, disc jockeys, bakers, florists and those selling or renting bridal gowns and tuxedos.

'Vagina Monologues' production raises $3,000 for two regional women's shelters
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Lawrence County Shelter for Victims of Abuse and the Butler County Victims Outreach Intervention Center (Butler County VOICe) will share more than $3,000 in proceeds from Slippery Rock University’s Women’s Studies Program performances of Eve Ensler’s award-winning plan “The Vagina Monologues.”

Holocaust Memorial curator presents 'Nazi Medicine, Eugenics and the Holocaust'
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Susan Bachrach, curator of special exhibits for the United States Holocaust Memorial Exhibit, will discuss “Nazi Medicine, Eugenics and the Holocaust” at Slippery Rock University March 6 as part of the University’s 13th annual Holocaust Remembrance Program. Her traveling exhibit “Deadly Medicine Creating the Master Race” is on display through March 18 at Pittsburgh’s Andy Warhol Museum.

Harvard group taps computer science professor for project
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – David Dailey, associate professor of computer science at Slippery Rock University, was invited by the Envisioning Science Project at Harvard University to participate in a software development initiative aimed at improving visual communication. Dailey and a few others will help in the design of the next generation of “image and meaning” software.

Alumni Association president earns his sergeant stripes
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Eric Holmes, president of the Slippery Rock University Alumni Association, was recently promoted to the rank of sergeant by the Pittsburgh Police Department. Holmes, a 1993 SRU graduate, has been a city police officer for 10 years, working in the K-9, narcotics and vice divisions.
