Guest lecturer to discuss ‘Race and the Black Body’
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – George Yancy, professor of
philosophy at Duquesne University, will discuss “Race and the Black
Body” at a free lecture 12:30 p.m. Feb. 27 in Slippery Rock
University’s Advanced Technology and Science Hall auditorium.
Yancy will focus on historical conceptions of the black body and
how conceptions have affected concepts of ethnicity, said Richard
Findler, SRU professor of philosophy.
Yancy has several books on the market. They include “Black Bodies,
White Gazes,” “White on White/Black on Black” and “African-American
Philosophers: 17 Conversations.”
The lecture is sponsored by the SRU Center for Applied and
Professional Ethics, Intercultural Programs and the Frederick
Douglass Institute.
