Holocaust Memorial curator presents ‘Nazi Medicine, Eugenics and the Holocaust’

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Susan Bachrach, curator of special exhibits for the United States Holocaust Memorial Exhibit, will discuss “Nazi Medicine, Eugenics and the Holocaust” at Slippery Rock University March 6 as part of the University’s 13th annual Holocaust Remembrance Program. Her traveling exhibit “Deadly Medicine Creating the Master Race” is on display through March 18 at Pittsburgh’s Andy Warhol Museum.

The free SRU lecture, sponsored by the political science department, is at 4 p.m. in Miller Auditorium.

Her previous exhibits include “Liberation 1945,” “NAZI OLYMPICS: Berlin 1936,” “Hidden History of the Kovno Ghetto” and “Flight and Rescue.”

Bachrach’s “Tell Them We Remember: The Story of the Holocaust” received the American Library Association’s “1995 Best Book for Young Adults” award.

She earned her bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College and her doctorate in modern European history from the University of Wisconsin.

She joined the museum in 1992 as a historian and writer for the identification card project. Her work included researching and helping chronicle the life of one Holocaust victim. The cards are distributed to visitors as they enter the permanent exhibition.

Richard Martin, professor of political science, organizes SRU’s Holocaust program.
