Annual music department concert offers ‘Prism’ of sound

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Hold a prism to the light and enjoy being surrounded by the glow, or attend Slippery Rock University’s March 25 “Prism 2007” concert and enjoy being surrounded by sound.

The concert makes use of the entire auditorium, with various musical groups performing from different areas of the hall. The event is the year’s largest scholarship fundraiser on campus, resulting in funds for four scholarships for upperclassmen, three to music education students and one to a music therapy student.

Organized by the Music Education Club, advised by Stacey Steele, assistant professor of music, the year’s concert will include SRU’s trumpet ensemble, concert band, flute choir, jazz ensemble, jazz combo, chamber singers, saxophone quartet, choir, brass ensemble and others.

The annul music department concert is at 4 p.m. in Miller Auditorium. Tickets are $5 for adults; $3 for students with proceeds benefiting the Kate Brennan Music Education Scholarship Fund and the Sue Shuttleworth Music Therapy Scholarship Fund. Brennan is retired department chair and professor emeritus of music. Shuttleworth is an assistant professor of music involved in the music therapy program.
