Muslim Summit features Dar al-Hijrah Islamic Center director

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Imam Shaker ElSayed, director of the Dar al-Hijrah Islamic Center in Falls Church, Va., and a 30-year Islamic studies teacher, will present a public lecture about “Prophet Muhammad in the Context of Abrahamic Tradition” as part of the Slippery Rock University political science department’s Muslim Summit.

In addition to serving as teacher and imam at Islamic centers, ElSayed also taught at the American University, served as principal of a K-12 school and was director of education at the Islamic Society of North America.

He also served as president of the American Egyptian Council, a community-based organization promoting human rights, political freedom, fair trade and community development. He has traveled extensively in and outside of North America lecturing on Islam, family and youth issues.

Heard on national radio and TV interviews, ElSayed hosts a local, weekday radio show in Falls Church.

The free summit is March 26 from 6-8:30 p.m. in the Advanced Technology and Science Hall. Following ElSayed’s lecture, the film “Muhammad: Legacy of a Prophet” will be shown.

Mark Daniels, professor of political science, and Adel Fergany, associate professor of computer science, are organizing the summit.
