Voice of Pittsburgh Pirates keynotes SRU Communication Week

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Tim DeBacco, 20-year public address announcer for the Pittsburgh Pirates and a well-known radio and television voice in the Pittsburgh region, will be the keynote speaker for Slippery Rock University's “Communication Week” observance March 27-31.

The week includes a Communication Expo, an alumni mixer and an honors banquet.

DeBacco, director of marketing and communications for Media Wombo, the world’s first full-service media buying Web site, augments his schedule as a writer and producer with various media projects, including regular half-hour, paid-programming television programs for Nu/Hart, a hair restoration company. He will lecture at 12:30 p.m. March 29 in Eisenberg Classroom Building auditorium.

A communication graduate of Clarion University, DeBacco is active in television and radio voice-overs and has had on-camera roles in a variety of regional and national commercials. He has recently been seen on national ads promoting cable advertising for Time Warner and Adelphia, as well as on advertising spots for the Invention Submission Corp. He did a stint as a fill in disc jockey for Pittsburgh’s Lite Rock, 92.9, WLTJ, and also works in non-broadcast industrial programs.

“Communication Week” activities begin with a “Game Show” at 12:30 p.m. March 27 in Eisenberg’s auditorium. Student classroom projects will be displayed 4-6 p.m. March 28 at the Communication Expo in the University Union.

Current students will have a chance to network with SRU communication graduates March 30 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the Russell Wright Alumni House. Awards will be presented to outstanding communication majors at an honors banquet March 31 at the University Club of North Hall.
