Japanese Taiko master drums up concert at Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Recording artist Kenny Endo will present the powerful and propulsive sounds of Japanese Taiko drumming when his drum ensemble performs in Slippery Rock University’s Advanced Technology and Science Hall Auditorium 6:30 p.m. March 29. The concert is free and open to the public.

Taiko (Japanese for fat drum) blends traditional Japanese sounds with rhythms from Africa, Brazil and Latin American to create resonant syncopations.

Endo, of Honolulu is a veteran percussionist and composer with several recordings and film/television appearances to his credit. He has released three CDs, “Eternal Energy,” “Hibiki” and “Jugoya,” and performed across the U.S. and in Germany and Belgium.

The SRU International Arts and Cultures Series, the College of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts and the International Services Office are sponsoring his appearance.
