Federal, state government jobs fair at SRU provides opportunities    

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Kathy L. Dillaman, associate director of investigations for the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, Federal Investigative Services Division, will deliver the keynote address for “Careers in Government Day” hosted by Slippery Rock University April 12. The event will include representatives of more than 40 federal and state government agencies who will provide information about employment opportunities and application procedures for their agencies.

           The 12:30-3:30 p.m. event, in the University Union, opens with Dillaman’s address followed by a question-and-answer session. Dillaman, a Grove City native, attended SRU. She is a Federal Executive Institute graduate. 

           Following Dillaman’s remarks, SRU students and those from neighboring colleges and universities can network with recruiters about specifics within their agencies. There will be breakout session about how to find and apply for federal and state employment opportunities. A panel discussion will focus on government opportunities for minorities.

           Dillaman oversees OPM-FISD’s operations in nearby Boyers, as well as Washington, D.C., Ft. Meade, Md., and regional operations. She is responsible for FISD’s operation, policy development and contractor oversight of OPM’s Investigation’s Program with an annual revolving fund of more than $500 million. OPM-FISD is the federal government’s largest provider of background investigations and services, supporting more than 90 federal agencies’ personnel security programs.

           “This event is an excellent opportunity for students to gather information about federal and state government jobs that may link directly to their major areas of study. Interested students can hear firsthand from recruiters and those who work in the various government offices about the jobs – and what particular areas of study may be of direct importance to their future employment,” said Anthony Linnan, associate director of SRU’s Career Services Office and program coordinator.

           Among the federal government agencies expected are the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Customs and Border Protection; Defense Contract Audit Agency; Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration; Department of Public Welfare; Department of Veterans Affairs; Federal Air Marshal Service; Internal Revenue Service; National Parks Service; the Peace Corps; AmeriCorps; Social Security Administration; U.S. Postal Inspection Service; U.S. Small Business Administration; U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service; the Secret Service; and others.

           A number of state government agencies will also participate, including Pennsylvania State Civil Service Commission; Pennsylvania State Police; and State Regional Correction Facility at Mercer.
