Spring music concerts dominate SRU performance schedule

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – With 15 upcoming concerts by various Slippery Rock University musical groups on the schedule, just about everyone should find something – opera, jazz, piano, percussion, brass, wind or choir – to their liking.

The schedule includes:

  • April 2, SRU Wind Ensemble, directed by Jim Berry, assistant professor of music, Miller Auditorium;
  • April 3, 12:30 p.m., Marissa Knaub, harp, guest recital;
  • April 10, SRU Jazz Combos II and III, Terry Steele, associate professor, conductor;
  • April 16, SRU Percussion Ensemble, Dr. David Glover, assistant professor, conductor;
  • April 22, Nanette Kaplan Solomon, professor, offers piano student duets;
  • April 23, SRU Brass Chamber Ensemble, Brian Meixner, instructor, coordinator;
  • April 24, Slippery Rock Symphony Orchestra, Warren Davidson, instructor, conductor;
  • April 25, Three Rivers Jazz Orchestra, University Union (Admission: $5 general public; $3 students);
  • April 26, SRU Bass Ensemble, Meixner, conductor;
  • April 26-27, Die Fledermaus, Colleen Gray Neubert, assistant professor, director, at Butler County Community College, Succop Theater (Admission: $10 general public; $5 students). (See April 29);
  • April 29, 4 p.m., SRU Flute Choir, Stacey Steele, assistant professor, conductor;
  • April 29, Die Fledermaus, Neubert (Admission: $5 general public; $3 students);
  • May 1, SRU Jazz Bands I and II, Stephen Hawk, associate professor of music, and Glover, conductors, Miller Auditorium;
  • May 3, SRU Concert Band, Berry, conductor, Miller Auditorium;
  • May 4, SRU Concert Choir, Stephen Barr, instructor, director, Miller Auditorium.(See May 6);
  • May 5, 5:30 p.m., SRU Jazz Festival, Hawk, University Union;
  • May 6, 4 p.m., Concert Choir, Barr, Butler County Community College, Succop Theater.

All concerts are at 7:30 p.m. in Swope Music Hall, unless otherwise noted. Some concerts carry a $3 admission charge for the general public.
