Folk musician brings strummin’ and singing to festival

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The sounds of a hammered dulcimer and banjo will resound when award-winning folk musician John McCutcheon performs at Slippery Rock University April 27 at 6 p.m. in the Advanced Technology and Science Hall auditorium.

McCutcheon, who sings traditional folk and original songs, appears as part of the University’s April 18-29 Kaleidoscope arts festival.

The folk legend has released 24 albums and received five Grammy nominations. “His interest in songwriting for children has produced several songbooks and children’s story books,” said Rachela Permenter, English professor and arts festival chair. “His appeal to all generations will make this a great folk music experience.”

Tickets are $3 for adults, $2 for children 13 and under when pre-ordered, $4 for adults and $3 for children at the door. Tickets are $2 for all if purchased during the festival’s Children’s Day April 21. Call 724-738-4863 or 4065.

SRU’s College of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts launched Kaleidoscope six years ago to celebrate the arts.
