University names outstanding graduate students

 

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University has awarded 24 students Outstanding Graduate Student Awards for their academic excellence. Provost William Williams presented the awards at a University Club ceremony attended by 100 people.

Faculty nominated and chose the recipients, with at least one from each of the University’s 10 graduate departments. “Many of the awardees have 4.0 grade-point averages,” April Longwell, director of graduate admissions, said.

Earning honors were: Jodi Bailey of Portersville, Heather Costello of Allison Park and Jennifer Mertz of Mercer, counseling and development; Michelle Curry of Grove City and Kristi Tomayko of Butler, elementary education/early childhood development; Jessica Dandoy of Butler and Samuel Shea of Pittsburgh, English; Benjamin Scharff of Allison Park, history; Renee Gilhousen of Polk, Patricia Pulito of Meadville and Laura Wanchick of Mercer, nursing; Jason Clark of Butler, Jennifer English of Pittsburgh and Heather Harvie of Simpsonville, S.C., parks and recreation/environmental education; Heidi Burtt of Zelienople, Billie Sheets of Roaring Spring, Valerie Williams of Beaver Falls and Makenzie Womer of Furnace, physical therapy; Joel Normand of Slippery Rock and Richard Bierbower of Kane, secondary education/foundations of education; Christiane Bell of Slippery Rock, Brice Hostutler of Pittsburgh and Samuel Rado of Farrell, special education; and Jennifer Miller of Pittsburgh, sport management.
