Greek Week drive fills food bank with 4,000 canned goods products

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock Feed My Sheep Food Cupboard will be well stocked in the coming weeks, thanks to Slippery Rock University’s Greek Week program. SRU students collected more than 4,000 canned goods – and 42 cases of bottled water for the non-profit food bank.

The campus project, known as a “Castle Competition” saw members of 14 campus organizations collect, then stack their cans into forts and castles in the Multi-Purpose Room of the University Union. After the can displays were removed, the food items were prepared for delivery to the local food cupboard.

“The cans came from students, their parents and local vendors contacted by the various organizations to make donations,” said Lorraine Stubbs, coordinator of Freshman Leadership and Greek Affairs.  “This was the first year for the project. It was held in connection with other Greek Week activities, including collecting aluminum soft drink can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House and the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Inc.”
