State Police name SRU graduate ‘Trooper of the Year’

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Cpl. Scott Patterson, a 1980 Slippery Rock University graduate now living in Fredonia, was named Pennsylvania State Police “Trooper of the Year” at recent ceremonies at the State Police Academy in Hershey.

Patterson earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from SRU and enlisted in the state police in 1980. Since that time, he’s conducted a number of high-profile cases, including serving as lead investigator in the 1988 murder of Thiel College graduate Roger Pratt.

In 2001, he was assigned to the polygraph unit where he has excelled. According to a news release from the state police, in 2006 Patterson conducted the highest number of polygraph examinations for state police investigations and for outside agencies.

“I am deeply humbled and honored for the recognition,” Patterson said.
