Rock graduate appointed to board of Sri Lankan corporation

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Dinesh Mendis, a 1992 marketing/economics graduate, is a great example of how far Slippery Rock University graduates can go – corporately and geographically.

Mendis was recently appointed to the board of directors of Aitken Spence & Co., LTD., in Sri Lanka, a leading service-sector company. The company leads Sri Lanka’s tourism and logistics industries and owns 12 top class hotels in Sri Lanka and Maldives.

Mendis joined Aitken Spence in 1984 but left to enroll at SRU. As a student, he served on the Student Government Association and received the Outstanding Student Award in marketing and economics as a senior. Mendis graduated magna cum laude.

He rejoined Aitken Spence in 1994 after receiving an MBA from the University of Texas. He was promoted to general manager of the company in 1995.

Aitken Spence is also involved with infrastructure development, printing and telecommunications.
