SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. „Ÿ David Skeele, Slippery Rock University professor of theater, definitely knows where he will be in early September. » Slippery Rock University professor receives award for advocacy work
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Robert Arnhold, Slippery Rock University professor of exercise and rehabilitative sciences, has received Exceptional Parent Magazine’s Maxwell J. Schleifer Distinguished Service Award. The award recognizes his advocacy for people with disabilities and leadership with Camp Shriver, a Special Olympics initiative.

» Shanghai Acrobats tumble into Slippery Rock, kick off Series
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The New Shanghai Circus Acrobats of China will perform Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Slippery Rock University’s Miller Auditorium.  The group replaces the Golden Dragon Acrobats as the first show in SRU’s Performing Arts Series. The Golden Dragon’s were forced to cancel their appearance when they were unable to secure a group visa to enter the United States.

» SRU opens new resource center for GLBTQ students
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University students had access to a new Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning Resource Center when they began the school year Monday. The University converted a former lounge in the basement of the University Union into a base for gay studies, advocacy and outreach.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Michael Callan, a 1981 Slippery Rock University graduate, has been promoted to Air Force brigadier general. The Meadville native, a pilot, commands the Air Force Special Operations Forces at Hurlburt Field, Fla.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Princeton Review’s survey of students attending Slippery Rock University found them bragging about “small classes,” a “great library” and “great athletic facilities” among other factors − all of which helped the University earn a spot in the 2008 edition of The Review’s just-published book “Best Northeastern Colleges.”

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Ramona Nelson, Slippery Rock University professor of nursing, has been named a fellow in the Academy of Nursing Education by the National League for Nursing. In selecting Nelson, the 115-year-old professional association cited her “sustained and significant contribution to nursing education.”

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Kathleen Paul, director of the Pennsylvania Center for Environmental Education housed at Slippery Rock University, has been appointed to a statewide task force that will spend the next six months formulating recommendations for improving outdoor recreational and educational opportunities for Pennsylvanians.
