Governor appoints PCEE director to State Outdoors Task Force

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Kathleen Paul, director of the Pennsylvania Center for Environmental Education housed at Slippery Rock University, has been appointed to a statewide task force that will spend the next six months formulating recommendations for improving outdoor recreational and educational opportunities for Pennsylvanians.

The Governor’s Outdoor Task Force will meet and ultimately present a report to Gov. Edward Rendell in early 2008. The governor formed the task force in March as part of the state’s Outdoor Conference.

“I am honored to be chosen to serve,” Paul said. “We will be addressing a broad range of concerns about the outdoors and environmental education will play an important part in our discussion.”

The task force is co-chaired by Douglas Austen, executive director of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, and Caren Glotfelty, director of environmental programs for the Heinz Endowments.

The group is composed of 17 members representing public and private interests related to the environment and outdoor recreation.

The PCEE, located in downtown Slippery Rock, was created by executive order of the governor in 1997 to “provide an avenue for increased participation by educators, local officials, citizen and non-profit groups, business and industry as partners in the implementation of quality environmental education on a statewide basis.”
