SRU economics, finance major wins $1,000 FEI Scholarship

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Brian Plowman, a Slippery Rock University finance and economics major from Lower Burrell, has received the $1,000 Financial Executive International Scholarship awarded by the Pittsburgh Chapter of FEI.

The award was presented at Pittsburgh’s Duquesne Club.

Plowman was selected from an essay detailing his academic success, qualifications for the award, community-service undertakings and financial need. Essays submitted by students in the SRU School of Business students were screened by Abbas Noorbakhsh, a professor in the school, with Plowman’s work then submitted to the chapter for review.

“His leadership, his grades, his essay and the fact he is a very strong student, weighed in my decision,” Noorbakhsh said. In addition, the professor also cited Plowman’s class participation and pointed out that applications must hold a 3.5 or higher grade-point average. “In addition, he has recently been named to one of our schools’ ‘Outstanding Seniors’ and is truly one of our very best students,”  Noorbakhsh said.

Other award recipients were selected from Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Pittsburgh, Duquesne University, Robert Morris University and Grove City College.
