3 SRU women’s athletic teams, 6 women athletes earn national honors

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –  The Slippery Rock University athletic department recently achieved a significant trifecta when three women's sports programs earned recognition from national governing bodies for their student-athletes' academic prowess.

The tennis program, headed by Matt Meredith, was named to "All-Academic Team" status by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association; Laurie Lokash's volleyball program received an American Volleyball Coaches Association "Team Academic Award"; and Stacey Hart's lacrosse program attained "Honor Squad" status from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association.

In addition to the team honors, three members of the lacrosse program and three tennis student-athletes received individual honors from their respective national organizations.

Jolene Gilson of Erie, Anna Shovestul of Hockessin, Del., and Rebecca Zinn of Dillsburg were named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll.

Christina Rhodes of Altoona, Lara Rizzi of Irwin and Christina Rubino of Kent, Ohio, were named as ITA Scholar-Athletes.
