Incoming SRU freshman has slot in Miss Teen USA pageant

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. − Tune in NBC-TV at 8 p.m. Aug. 24 to find out if incoming Slippery Rock University freshman Kelsie Sinagra of Pittsburgh will be named Miss Teen USA.

Sinagra plans to major in secondary education at SRU and hopes to teach high school social science or history.

In a preliminary interview for the pageant, Sinagra said her dream job is “returning to teach at her alma mater.”

When asked, “What is the craziest thing you have ever done?,” she replied, “I dressed up in an old crown and banner for a Kenny Chesney concert and went from official to official at the concert trying to convince them I was scheduled to announce Kenny on stage, and a couple of them truly believed me. Needless to say, in the end, I failed in my mission, but it was worth a try.”

Interviewed earlier this week by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Sinagra talked of her pageant preparations. “I’m at the gym six days a week, watching what I eat. I swear, I can’t wait to go to go college just to eat,” she said.

In addition to being named Miss Pennsylvania Teen USA last November in Pittsburgh, she also captured the Miss Photogenic title as part of the competition. A graduate of North Hills Senior High, she was involved with the ski club, ran track and field, and was a member of the yearbook staff. Sinagra also served as an advocate for the prevention of drunk driving and worked as a volunteer with SADD (Students Against Drunk Driving).

The annual competition will be broadcast live nationwide from Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, Calif., with actor and dancer Mario Lopez as host. Katie Blair, Miss Teen USA 2006 of Montana, will crown her successor as young ladies from all 50 states and the District of Columbia complete in swimsuit, evening gown and interview categories.
