EDITOR'S NOTE: The Sept. 14 event is sold out.

Shanghai Acrobats tumble into Slippery Rock, kick off Series

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The New Shanghai Circus Acrobats of China will perform Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Slippery Rock University’s Miller Auditorium.  The group replaces the Golden Dragon Acrobats as the first show in SRU’s Performing Arts Series. The Golden Dragon’s were forced to cancel their appearance when they were unable to secure a group visa to enter the United States.

“Although we are sorry the Golden Dragon Acrobats are unable to perform at this time, we are pleased to announce that another internationally acclaimed group has agreed to appear,” said Deborah Baker, manager of University events. “The New Shanghai Circus Acrobats have  performed to sold-out audiences on Broadway and do many of the same amazing feats.”

Golden Dragon subscription and individual tickets will be honored at the event. Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for those 62 and older and 17 or under, and $8 for SRU students. Call 724.738.2091.

AVI Food Service, the campus food contractor, is sponsoring a themed pre-show dinner at the University Club in North Hall. Tickets for this event must be purchased separately. For more information, or to order tickets, call 724.738.2840, Ext. 101.

SRU’s Performing Arts Series also includes a Dec. 1 holiday concert by Maureen McGovern, a Feb. 8 performance by Philadanco! Philadelphia’s Dance Company and a March 29 showing of the Tony-Award dinning musical “Five Guys Named Moe.” An added attraction – not part of the series but offered for families – is a one-hour adaptation of the children’s favorite “Charlotte’s Web” on May 23. Season tickets remain available. Call 724.738.2091.
