Skeele has haunting success; play selected for Festival production

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- David Skeele, Slippery Rock University professor of theater, definitely knows where he will be in early September. There is little doubt he'll be pacing the lobby of the Pittsburgh New Works Festival at the corner of Smallman Street and 29th Street, in Pittsburgh's Strip District, awaiting audience reaction to his play "Starla."

           "Starla" is the story of a theater professor and a student working on Lady Macbeth's spirit-summing monologue in a haunted theater. The pair decides to use the monologue to really summon spirits. Unfortunate for them, they succeed.

           Skeele's script was selected by festival judges as one of 12 plays from approximately 200 national submissions for a full, four-weekend production.

           "It is something I am very pleased to have been selected for, and, of course, I am looking forward to seeing the work come alive on stage," Skeele said.

           Skeele's had a busy summer. In addition to preparing for "Starla" debut, in July he performed his solo play "Not a Funeral," at the d gallery theatre in Ontario, Calif.
