» Park law enforcement program garners national spotlight
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s innovative seasonal law enforcement training program is receiving national exposure through a profile in the Association of National Park Rangers journal. The program is unique because it integrates law enforcement into SRU’s bachelor’s of science in park and resource management program.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s Jennifer Keller, associate professor of dance, has created some great dance moves. So great in fact, she’s been invited to show them off in a hybrid “dance technology” program when Pittsburgh’s LABCO Dance presents “Private Domain” to open its 2007-08 season.

» Veteran Professor launches SRU President's Capstone Lecture Series
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Francene Haymon, professor in Slippery Rock University’s Counseling Center and 33-year veteran employee of the University, will be the inaugural speaker for the University’s new President’s Capstone Lecture Series.

» Professional association names Nichols teacher of the year
The Pennsylvania State Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance has named Slippery Rock University physical education instructor Randy Nichols Physical Education Teacher of the Year.

» SRU Symphony Orchestra concert honors Edvard Grieg work
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – In honor of the 100th anniversary of the death of Edvard Grieg, Nanette Kaplan Solomon, professor of music at Slippery Rock University, will perform the composer’s “Piano Concerto in A minor” at the SRU Symphony Orchestra’s fall concert.

» SRU special education graduate earns leadership position
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Frank Cloud, a 1976 Slippery Rock University graduate, has been named director of special education for the Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV. The unit provides services to more than 1,300 school children with special needs in Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties.

» Exercise Science Society collects 1,165 food items during drive
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- It took just 13 SRU exercise science majors to coordinate a two-week campaign that collected 1,165 canned goods and non-perishable food items in a food drive that will benefit local residents who rely on the Feed My Sheep Food Cupboard in Slippery Rock.

» SRU education, English major takes 'Student Paper Award'
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Christie D. Willison, a secondary education and English major from Cranberry Township, has won the "Meritorious Student Paper Award" at the 2007 ISECON (Information Systems Education Conference) for her paper "Teaching Students How to Evaluate Sources in Online Research." 

» SRU exercise science major receives $1,000 scholarship
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Krystal Daniels, an SRU exercise science major from New Middletown, Ohio, has received a $1,000 National Leadership Scholarship from her employer Chick-fil-A in Boardman, Ohio.

» SRU education alumna receives national honor
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Sandra Scurle Kalin, a 1964 SRU education graduate, has received the 2007 National Distinguished Principal Award from the U.S. Department of Education and the National Association of Elementary School Principals.

» SRU explores doctor of education collaborative
 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University is exploring the possibility of establishing a   collaborative program with Youngstown State University to bring YSU’s doctor of educational leadership program to western Pennsylvania. The Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit is also interested in establishing the collaborative program.

» Student Government Association efforts help 'green' the campus
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s Student Government Association recently completed a tree project that will benefit the University and students for years to come. SGA began the project by purchasing 60 saplings to create a tree farm on campus. They recently added an additional $1,000 to the project in order to purchase an additional 40 trees that are large enough for immediate planting.

» Afghan author shares life under totalitarian rule
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Author Farooka Gauhari, the first Afghan woman to publish her memoir in an English book, will bring her personal account of living under totalitarian rule in Afghanistan to Slippery Rock University at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

» Joseph earns Grace Hopper Schoalr award at conference
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University computer science faculty member Patricia Joseph was named a Grace Hopper Scholar when she and Stephanie Kasenter, a senior computer science major from New Castle, presented their peer-reviewed posters at the international 2007 Grace Hopper Celebration of Computing Conference in Orlando, Fla.

» Buffy Sainte-Marie brings 'American Indians and Cyberspace' to SRU
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Buffy Sainte-Marie, a Cree singer and former “Sesame Street” regular who along with her son Dakota reminded children that “Indians still exist,” will visit Slippery Rock University Nov. 19 to sing and lecture about “American Indians and Cyberspace.” 

» Pittsburgh Magazine salutes SRU graduate in '40 Under 40'
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Patrick J. Geho, a 1992 Slippery Rock University graduate who was a student government leader and is now president of the Beaver County Chamber of Commerce, has been recognized by Pittsburgh Magazine and the Pittsburgh Urban Magnet Project as No. 21 in its November “40 Under 40” salute.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – William McKinney, dean of the College of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts at Slippery Rock University, has been appointed to the Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau’s Board of Directors representing arts and culture.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University Alumni Association will host a Veteran’s Day Observance at 11:11 a.m. Nov. 9 at the Veterans Memorial outside the Russell Wright Alumni House on campus.

» New SRU Jazz/Tap Dance Ensemble plans concert
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University dance students have formed a new student-run dance troupe, which will present its first  “Jazz/Tap Dance Ensemble ” at 3 p.m. Nov. 11 in Swope Music Hall.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Internations Week at Slippery Rock University opens Sunday with the spotlight on international sports and gives international students opportunities to explain many of the cultural customs of their home countries and American students and the regional community the chance to ask questions and learn about different cultures. There is also an opportunity to taste international foods.
