Humanities dean earns countywide tourism board post

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – William McKinney, dean of the College of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts at Slippery Rock University, has been appointed to the Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau’s Board of Directors representing arts and culture.

“This makes a powerful statement about the quality of our arts programs here at SRU and their role in cultural and economic development,” McKinney said.

McKinney, who will help to market and promote the arts countywide, was appointed because of the University’s leadership in offering regional arts entertainment, said Jack Cohen, executive director of the tourism bureau.

“There are a lot of great things going on at the University, and we want to tap into that and tell people countywide about the wonderful events at Slippery Rock University,” Cohen said.

McKinney’s term runs to June 30, 2009. The non-profit tourism organization promotes tourism and conventions in the county.
