USA Today photo captures SRU graduate with Tiger Woods

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Bob Murray, director of the Gatorade Sports Science Institute and a 1971 and 1974 Slippery Rock University graduate, is part of team working on a line of Gatorade that will be named for Tiger Woods. Murray was recently pictured with Woods in USA Today along with a story announcing changes in the sports drink company’s product line.

Murray and another scientist were photographed conducting scientific sweat analysis testing on the famous golfer who will lend his name to the Gatorade Tiger line.

Woods joined a stable of Gatorade celebrity endorsers, including the NFL’s Peyton Manning, the New York Yankees Derek Jeter and NBA star Dwayne Wade.

Murray, an exercise science graduate who went on to earn a doctorate in exercise physiology, oversees research in exercise science and sports nutrition at the Chicago-based Gatorade Institute.

He remains heavily involved with Slippery Rock University. He funds the Bob Murray Swimming Scholarship and is an Aquamarine Lifetime Giving Club member. Murray has returned several times to campus to present guest lectures. In 2005, he presented “Science, Sports and Business: The Gatorade Formula” to mark the completion of an auditorium renovation in Eisenberg Classroom Building.

Murray is a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine.
