Tickets available for Philadanco!’s Feb. 8 performance at SRU

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.  – A limited number of tickets remain available for Philadanco! The Philadelphia Dance Company’s Feb. 8 performance at Slippery Rock University. The trailblazing group of contemporary dancers will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Miller Auditorium.

The group emphasizes innovative works by American choreographers and has performed to acclaim in Europe, Asia and across the United States.

Dance Magazine said, “Philadanco!’s dancers are a miracle of skill and energy. They work in a range of idioms most companies don’t even try to possess…A company that can do more than just anything…It can represent the possibilities of the human spirit through dance.”

Philadanco! was started in 1970 by Joan Myers Brown. The troupe currently performs for more than 100,000 people a year and employs dancers year round. The company founded the International Conference of Black Dance Companies and International Association of Blacks in Dance, which addresses the needs of the African American dance community.

Philadanco! is appearing as part of SRU’s 2007-2008 Performing Arts Series. The series concludes with a March 29 showing of the Tony Award-winning musical “Five Guys Named Moe.” A special May 23 presentation of “Charlotte’s Web” will follow (tickets are $8). A dinner at Weisenfluh Dining Hall and hands-on activities for children will precede the children’s play. The menu will include pizza, macaroni and cheese and buttermilk fried chicken.

Philadanco! tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for those 62 and older and 17 and under and $8 for SRU students. Call 724.738.2091 for tickets or information about the other performances.

“Charlotte’s Web” dinner tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children under 12. Call 724.738.2840.

The dance troupe’s appearance is partially supported by a grant from Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour, a program developed and funded by the Heinz Endowments; the William Penn Foundation; the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts; and The Pew Charitable Trusts; and administered by Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation. The tour engagement of The Philadelphia Dance Company is also funded through the American Masterpieces program of Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts American Masterpieces: Three Centuries of Artistic Genius, a major initiative to acquaint Americans with the best of their cultural and artistic legacy.
