U.S. Army Band selects SRU’s Meixner for international conference

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Brian Meixner, SRU assistant professor of music, is one of only three college low brass teachers from around the world invited to perform at Saturday’s United States Army Band Tuba and Euphonium Conference at Fort Myers, Va.

Meixner, who joined the SRU music faculty in 2006, will present Derek Bourgeois’ “Concerto” on euphonium as part of the College Teachers Recital portion of the program.

The event, which opened Thursday, attracts hundreds of tuba and euphonium players. The conference offers recitals and master classes from a variety of American and international performers along with performances by the U.S. Army Band and Orchestra.

“This is the only international conference of its kind, and I am truly pleased to have been invited to play,” Meixner said.
