Philadelphia Eagles promote Rock grad to linebackers’ coach

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Bill Shuey, a 1996 Slippery Rock University graduate, has been promoted to linebackers’ coach by the Philadelphia Eagles. The sport management graduate started his career with the Eagles as a marketing intern and most recently worked as a defensive quality control coach.

“I talked to a few guys who were linebacker coaches and obviously interviewed Bill. I just thought his knowledge of what we do is phenomenal,” Eagles head coach Andy Reid told The Morning Call newspaper of Bethlehem.

Shuey just completed his seventh season with the team. Reid hired him as assistant training camp coordinator in 2000. He became Reid’s administrative assistant in 2001. He eventually became offensive quality control coach and then switched to defense.

As the quality control coach, Shuey organized practices, led opponent film breakdowns and helped with the punt and punt returns teams.

“He’s very smart, number one, and he’s very organized,” Reid said. “He has a great mind for football.”
