ACPA names SRU’s Connie Foley a Diamond Award winner

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Connie Foley, vice president for student life at Slippery Rock University, has been named an American College Personnel Association Diamond Honoree Award recipient for her more than 30 years of student advocacy and leadership in higher education. She will receive the award March 31 in Atlanta.

“This honor means a lot to me. I am glad that it happened because, quite simply, I am an advocate for students,” Foley said. “My goal is to create an environment that is supportive of students’ academic pursuits as well as their overall growth and development.”

The ACPA selected 15 Diamond Honorees nationwide. The Washington, D.C., based association works to engage students for a lifetime of learning and discovery. ACPA members nominate individuals they feel should be recognized for their contribution to student affairs and the ACPA.

Foley joined SRU 18 months ago. She oversees student activities, housing, athletics, clubs and leadership initiatives. She is adviser to the Student Government Association and has led a student group to Ireland.

Before joining SRU, she was assistant vice president for student affairs at Florida Atlantic University.  Previous to FAU, she worked in residence life at Kent State University and the University of San Francisco.

Foley earned a doctorate from Arizona State University, a master’s degree from Syracuse University and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Michigan.

“I like this age group, and I like living and working in a college environment,” Foley said. “I try to support students on a day-to-day basis so that they will make a difference on campus.”
