 SRU history graduate earns accolades from Pa. Historical Association

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Daniel P. Barr, a 1994 history undergraduate and a 1996 history master’s degree recipient from SRU, has received the Philip S. Klein Pennsylvania History Prize from the Pennsylvania Historical Association.

           The award is presented biennially to the scholar who writes the best article for the association's journal, Pennsylvania History. Barr's winning article examined the strategies and motivations behind the Delaware Indians' decision to fight with the French in the French and Indian War, according to a story in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review written by Craig Smith. 

           "It's nice to be recognized when you are doing something you enjoy so much. You kind of get the best of both worlds,” Barr told the newspaper. 

           Barr, who earned his doctorate in history at Kent State University, is an assistant professor of history at Robert Morris University. He makes his home with his wife, Nicole, also a 1996 SRU graduate, and their two children, in Springfield.
