SRU financial planning team invited to Ameriprise -- again

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s three-member financial planning team has again been selected to compete in Phase II of the Ameriprise Financial Planning Invitational in Minneapolis April 23-26.

“This is the third year in a row, and the fifth time in the last seven years, an SRU team has been selected,” said John Misner, professor in SRU’s School of Business and team adviser.

Team members, all finance majors,  are Alan Graf  from Butler, Anthony Legge from Latrobe and Nikolay Genov, an international student from Bulgaria.

Every college and university with an undergraduate program in financial planning was eligible to enter a team, Misner said. To participate in the initial phase, each team prepared a comprehensive financial plan for a fictitious client couple. The plans were judged by Ameriprise officials.

While at the final competition, the team will make a formal presentation of their case to a panel of judges and will take part in the “How Do You Know Challenge?” to show their knowledge of financial planning topics.

Other universities selected for the competition are: Appalachian State, Fort Hays State, Kansas State, Mississippi State, the University of Georgia, Virginia Tech and Wright State.
