SRU honors 55 faculty members for service; Cavill marks 50 years

 

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University President Robert Smith honored 55 University faculty members for their dedicated service at the annual Academic Assembly and said, “Your continued support of the vision of this University and your commitment to our students are what separates this University from others in our region and the commonwealth. I continue to believe that we are on the edge of reaching amazing heights.”

           Among those receiving honors was Wilma Cavill, assistant professor of health and safety and the longest-serving faculty member in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, who is celebrating 50 years of service to SRU. Cavill was presented of a bronze serving tray and a special reserved, on-campus parking space.

            Cavill, who joined the faculty in 1958, was also honored recently for her service by the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education board of governors and the SRU Council of Trustees.

           Smith, Provost William Williams and the academic deans presented service pins and other recognition to faculty members who were celebrating anniversary dates.

            Others honored were:

           40-years: John Badgett, secondary education, and Richard Wukich, art.

           30-years: M. Rebecca Badgett, and Robert Bost, Jr., both special education; Bernice Brown, elementary education/early childhood; Thom Cobb, dance; David Culp, School of Business; and Ann Kemmerer, counseling and development. 

           25-years: Lynn Spadine Taylor, physical education, and Jesus Valencia, School of Business.

           20-years: Robertha Abney and Catriona Higgs, both sport management; Nora Ambrosio, dance; Susan Argyle, elementary education/early childhood; Richard Arthur, communication; Michael Cleary, health and safety; Jeffrey Forrest, mathematics; James Hathaway, geography, geology and the environment; Paulette Johnson, parks and recreation/environmental education; Alice Kaiser-Drobney, professional studies; Susan Parsons and Constance Laughner-Ramirez, Academic Services; Nelson Ng, exercise and rehabilitative sciences; Richard Port, psychology; Melinda Ristvey and Eva Tsuquiashi-Daddesio, both modern languages and cultures; Stacey Steele, music; Kathleen Strickland, English; and Caryn Trapp, secondary education.

           15-years: Deborah Cohen, modern languages and cultures; Daniel Dziubek, parks and recreation/environmental education; Carol Holland, counseling center; Cindy LaCom, English; Mary Russo, counseling and development; Mark Shotwell, biology; Bonnie Siple, exercise and rehabilitative sciences; David Skeele, theatre; and Wendy Stuhldreher, health and safety.

           10-years: Thomas Bechard, social work, criminology and criminal justice; Cathy Brinjak, Academic Advisement Center, Patrick Burkhart, geography, geology and the environment; Jennifer Chestnut, parks and recreation/environmental education; Joseph Harry, communication; Rose Heilman-Houser, Anne Slanina and Judy Werner, all elementary education/early childhood; Jennifer Keller, dance; Ahmad Khalili, professional studies; Thomas Pearcy, history; Jon Shumway, art; Donald Strano, counseling and development; Melba Tomeo, Bailey Library; Linda Veronie, psychology; and Mark Zeltner, communication.
