SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University has been named winner of the 2007-08 Dixon Trophy awarded to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference’s most successful all-around program.

SRU Performing Arts Series features harmonies, Irish music, comedy
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Another renowned array of singers, comedians and dancers highlights Slippery Rock University’s just announced 2008-09 Performing Arts Series. Subscriptions for the four shows – Capitol Steps, The Four Freshmen, Pastures of Plenty (Woody Guthrie tribute) and Dublin’s Traditional Irish Cabaret – are now available.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Thirty-five staff employees at Slippery Rock University were honored this week for their dedicated service, including Dorothy Thompson, a 35-year employee in the Office of Alumni Relations.

Local Audubon honors SRU for wildlife sanctuaries
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University has received a Conservation Award from the Bartramian Audubon Society for establishing four Audubon wildlife sanctuaries since 2005. The sanctuaries, part of the University’s green landscape and outdoor learning initiative, preserve 210 acres.

SRU professor in China reports no ill effects from earthquake
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s George Brown, associate professor of political science, on sabbatical from the University and teaching in China, reports he was unharmed by the 7.9 magnitude earthquake that devastated a large region of China Monday. Brown and his wife are in Nanjing.

Athletic training majors receive national scholarships
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Six Slippery Rock University athletic training majors have received $2,000 scholarships from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Research and Education Foundation – the most ever awarded by the association to students from one institution. Two students also earned $2,000 scholarships from the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers’ Society.
