APSCUF membership elects SRU’s Amy Walters vice president

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Amy Walters, a member of the Slippery Rock University communication faculty since 1990, was elected vice president of the Association of Pennsylvania State, College and University Faculty, the statewide faculty union, at its legislative assembly in Grantville.

            Steve Hicks, a member of the Lock Haven University faculty, was elected president.

             Walters, an assistant professor, has served as a delegate to APSCUF’s legislative assembly for eight years. Her APSCUF service includes work on the union’s state retirement committee and its distance education advisory committee. She has served on the local executive committee as chair of the local negotiations committee.

             “In addition to serving in the president’s absence, I have a number of other projects, including a faculty education project and one dealing with some public relations areas,” Walters said.

             She said it was the first time she had sought a statewide VP post, but ran for an at-large position several years ago.

             APSCUF represents more than 5,200 faculty and coaches across the state.
