SRU’s exercise and rehabilitative sciences department honors outstanding seniors

 

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.Six Slippery Rock University students have been honored with outstanding senior awards and scholarships by the department of exercise and rehabilitative sciences. Students’ accomplishments include academic excellence, leadership and initiative.

            Honored were Alicia Dixon, a physical education major from Cresson; Christine Jones, an athletic training major from Meadville; Lisa O’Brien, an exercise and rehabilitative sciences and dance major from Pottstown; Ashley Winkelspecht, an athletic training major from Delran, N.J.; Jeremy Gebhart, an exercise and rehabilitative sciences major from New Castle; and Darcey Karas, an exercise and rehabilitative sciences and dance major from Baden.

            Dixon received the Outstanding Senior Student Award in Adapted Physical Activity. This award recognizes a student who demonstrates professionalism, advocacy and leadership.

            Jones received the Outstanding Senior Student Award in Athletic Training. This award recognizes a student who exemplifies strong academics, service and leadership.

            O’Brien received the Outstanding Senior Student Award in Exercise and Rehabilitative Sciences and the Charles and Ruth Nibling Brooker Scholarship. The scholarship honors the exercise science senior who has the highest grade-point average. O’Brien has a 4.0 grade-point average.

            Winkelspecht received the Esther Lynne Geissel Scholarship. The scholarship recognizes an athletic training major who demonstrates motivation and initiative in clinical environments and participates in community service.

            Gebhart received the Fred and Mary Roby Scholarship. The scholarship recognizes an exercise and rehabilitative sciences major that shows commitment to fitness and needs financial aid.

            Karas received the Sheila I. Drohan Scholarship. The scholarship goes to an exercise and rehabilitative sciences major that shows commitment to excellence in fitness and who needs financial aid. Drohan is a 1974 SRU graduate.
