Pa. Education Department selects SRU Child Care Center as model

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University Student Government Association Preschool and Child Care Center has been asked by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to allow publication of its Preschool Curriculum and Daily Schedule as a model for others.

“I want to post the materials, because they align well and provide valuable information for our early learning practitioners,” said Carolyn Gallo, early childhood specialist in the Pennsylvania Department of Education Office of Child Development and Early Learning.

The materials will available from the department’s Web site making it available to other early learning programs across the state as well as Web visitors from outside Pennsylvania.

The curriculum was developed and is being implemented by Lisa Ringer, center director, Katie Stanley, assistant director, and Julia Parenti, head teacher.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education Early Learning Standards and the National Association for the Education of Young Children Accreditation Standards were used as the basis for the curriculum development, Ringer said.

The SRU center, located in McKay Education Building, offers full- and part-day programs for preschoolers along with before- and after-school programs those ages 6-12.

In addition, full- and part-day summer programs and special summer camp weeks are available to children ages 3-12.
