Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania seeks full-time (nine-month) tenure-track faculty member, at assistant professor level, in our 17-member Department of Communication, to begin Fall 2009.
Qualifications: Doctorate in journalism, mass communication or related discipline required. A.B.D. considered if degree completed at time of employment. Professional journalism experience preferred. College teaching experience preferred. The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to the education of diverse populations. Successful performance in an on-campus interview, including teaching demonstration, is required.
Responsibilities: Teach journalism and mass-media courses to undergraduate journalism, public relations, emerging technologies and general-communication majors. Primary responsibility is teaching journalism courses, with preference given to candidates with an interest in teaching broadcast and/or online journalism. Interest in advising The Rocket, our weekly student newspaper, is a plus. Candidate will have the opportunity to teach in his or her specialty area and may be asked to teach other courses as needed by the department. Teaching load is 12 credit-hours (four courses per semester, three courses if advising student paper) per semester. Faculty members are expected to engage in continuing scholarly development, to advise students, and perform department and university service.
