Tubas, euphoniums send echoes across SRU campus Nov. 22

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Staff Sgt. Ryan McGeorge, with the United States “President’s Own” Marine Band, and Carson McTeer, with the Pittsburgh-based River City Brass Band, will join Brian Meixner, assistant music professor at Slippery Rock University, for the University’s “Tuba-Euphonium Day at The Rock” Nov. 22.

The day, which is expected to attract more than 50 college, high school and middle school tuba and euphonium players, will offer a series of master classes, clinics and music-reading sessions in Swope Music Hall. The event opens at noon.

Participants should bring their own instruments.

Tuba-Euphonium Day will include a 7:30 p.m. public recital featuring McGeorge, McTeer and Meixner, who joined the SRU music faculty in 2006, along with Matthew Murchison, a solo euphonium player with the River City Brass Band.

All musicians participating in the day will be part of the concert.

The event is sponsored in part by Motter’s Music, Inc., Boardman, Ohio.
