Rock duo earns player of the week honors

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Two members of Rock fall sports teams were named Monday as recipients of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference "Athlete of the Week" honors.

Senior goalie Sarah Lacy of Lock Haven was named one of the winners of the PSAC-Western Division women's soccer weekly honor, while junior Pat Reagan of Masontown earned the men's cross country honor.

Lacy earned her honor after allowing only one goal in two PSAC-West Division games last week. She recorded saves on 93 percent of the shots on goal taken by Edinboro and Indiana University of Pennsylvania to lead SRU to 2-0 and 3-1 wins in the respective games.

The wins moved veteran head coach Noreen Herlihy's squad into a tie for first place in the division heading into today's 4 p.m. home game against Mercyhurst at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.

The Rock owns an 11-3-1 overall record and a 7-2-1 PSAC-West mark. This marks the 11th consecutive season and 12th time in the last 13 seasons that a Herlihy-coached Rock squad has won 10 or more games in a season.

Reagan won his third PSAC Runner of the Week honor by being the top NCAA Division II finisher in last Friday's Penn State National Invitational in University Park. He was also named as the award winner Sept. 8 and Oct. 6.

His seventh-place finisher at Penn State marked the first time in four races this fall that Reagan did not win an individual championship. He earlier reigned over rivals at the California University of Pennsylvania, IUP and SRU Pre-National invitationals.

Reagan and his Rock teammates are idle until Nov. 1, when they will compete in the PSAC Championships in Lock Haven.

One week later, SRU will host the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional competition at Cooper's Lake Campground south of Slippery Rock.

Two weeks after that, The Rock will host the Division II national championship event, also at Cooper's Lake.

The conference, regional and national races will also feature both men's and women's competitions.
