Deighton earns ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honor

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Rock junior forward Jeremy Deighton, a marketing major from Broadview Heights, Ohio, was named Thursday to second-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors in voting by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Deighton owns a 3.52 grade-point-average.

On the soccer field, Deighton is The Rock's leading scorer with 14 goals and two assists. He ranks fifth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in goals scored and sixth in points per game.

Behind Deighton's leadership, The Rock has secured a berth in the PSAC playoffs for the first time since 2006. SRU currently sits atop the PSAC-Western Division standings with one game remaining on its regular-season schedule.

The Rock will take 13-4-1 overall record and an eight-game win streak into Saturday's regular-season finale vs. California University of Pennsylvania on James W. Egli Soccer Field. Game time is 1 p.m.

A win Saturday will assure The Rock of a host role for a conference semifinal game Wednesday.

Deighton's selection marks the ninth consecutive year The Rock has had at least one student-athlete named to Academic All-District honors.
