SRU student offers You Tube response to ABC ‘20/20’ election query

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – It’s Election Day across America and Slippery Rock University students are clearly involved.

Brandon Parker, a senior political science major from Erie, used part of his fellowship in Oregon to make a video now featured on You Tube’s video homepage.

Parker, past president of SRU’s Student Union for Minority Affairs and a member of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity, said he made the video while working as a political organizer for the Oregon Bus Project, a program of driving voters to the polls. The video is a response to a recently aired ABC “20/20” report done by reporter John Stossle questioning whether young people should vote and questioning their political savvy.

Parker said his video targets older people to show how “20/20's” exploitation tactics among young people was wrong and a huge generalization.

“Given the current political climate I thought both videos would be an excellent comparison for the SRU student body to view and discuss,” he said.

The campus is reminded Pennsylvania polls are open until 8 p.m. today for registered voters.

Television coverage of election returns will be shown beginning at 8 p.m. in the University Union.
