Two SRU flag football teams hold their own at national tournament   

 

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University Intramural Sports Program sent two intramural flag football teams to the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association Regional Tournament hosted at The Ohio State University, with the Clem Is Nuts team ending 1-1 in pool play and the We Made Us team ending 2-0. However, both teams were knocked out in the finals.

            In pool action, SRU’s Clem team lost to Ball State University by giving up a last-minute touchdown, but then beat Wilmington College in the second game which earned them a berth in the finals.

The We Made Us team beat the returning and eventual repeating regional champion Ohio State University and also beat Youngstown State University, going 2-0 in its division and earning a first-round bye in tournament play. 

Clem advanced to the second round, beating Baldwin-Wallace College, but was eventually knocked out by the University of Miami in the tournament, while We Made Us lost by two points in the second round to OSU.

            Overall, the two teams combined for a 4-3 record. 

            We Made Us’ Eric Novick of Glen Dale, W. Va., was named to the All-Tournament Team scoring seven touchdowns in three games.

            Clem Is Nuts participants were: Ryan Butschle of Moon; Geoff Giegucz, South Hills; Justin Kosik, Pittsburgh; Mike Logut, Coraopolis; Ed Mirra, Wexford; Chris Parris, Harleysville; Brad Silver, Lansdale; and Matt McVay, Ryan Skuse, Jordan Way, William Woods and Andrew Reinsel, all of Oil City.

            The We Made Us team includes Tyler Callihan of Karns City; Chris Harmon, Mentar, Ohio; Matt Lobaugh, Youngstown, Ohio; Tyler Moss, Johnstown; Zerick Pierce, Preston Tilghman and Marcus Welch, all of Philadelphia; and Novick.
