Bowser earns Daktronics Inc. honorable mention All-America honor

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –  Rock sophomore midfielder Toby Bowser from Beaver was named today as an honorable mention All-America men's soccer performer by Daktronics Inc. in voting by the nation's NCAA Division II sports information directors.

Bowser tied an SRU school record this fall when he handed out 15 assists. He also scored two goals and finished as The Rock's second leading scorer with 19 points.

Bowser's assists total was the best recorded this fall by a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference men's player and his 0.68 assists per game average ranked sixth nationally, while his 0.86 points per-game average earned him a share of 15th place on the PSAC scoring chart.

He played an integral part in The Rock compiling a 14-7-1 record this fall, which tied for the second-best win total in Rock history. This year's Rock squad also earned a first-ever berth in an NCAA regional final, the second NCAA postseason berth in school history. The double-digit win total was the fourth recorded by seven-year head coach Matt Thompson's program in the last five seasons. Only 14 SRU squads since 1934 have won 10 or more games.

Thompson and The Rock have high hopes for the 2009 season as they will welcome back all the 2008 team except for senior midfielder Patrick Cormac.
