SRU’s Rock CARES project launches holiday greeting program

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – As a special project, the Slippery Rock University Institute for Community, Service-Learning and Nonprofit Leadership’s Rock CARES project has launched a program to send holiday greetings to those serving in the U.S. military.

Organizers are asking anyone with a family member or friend deployed for the holiday season to send the soldier’s name, APO address, their name and the soldier's relationship via e-mail to: theinstitute@sru.edu before Dec. 10. In return, the Rock CARES program will send them holiday greetings.

Those who don’t personally know a deployed solder, but still want to show soldiers that the Rock CARES, are invited to sign a holiday card from 12:30-1:30 p.m. or from 5-7 p.m. Thursday in Weisenfluh Dining Hall or the University Union. Volunteers are also needed to address envelopes from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Lowry Center.

Throughout the year, the Rock CARES project will continue collecting names and APO addresses, and organizing card, letter and CARE package campaigns. Rock CARES membership is open to anyone who cares about the U.S. troops. Rock CARES meets at 12:30 p.m. the first and third Thursday of each month at the Lowry Center.

For additional information, call Sabrina Weneck, an AmeriCorp member, at 724.738.2273 or visit the institute’s office in the Lowry Center.
