Dublin’s Traditional Irish Cabaret performs at SRU 

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. ­– Experience a spectacular evening of Irish song, dance, music and comedy when Dublin’s Traditional Irish Cabaret performs at Slippery Rock University at 7:30 p.m. March 21 in Miller Auditorium. Noel Ginnity, dubbed Ireland’s greatest living comedian, will help bring the blarney and flavor of the old country to SRU.

            “Ginnity’s one of the biggest stars in Ireland and has been recognized by their president,” said Deborah Baker, SRU director of special events. “People who have seen him in Ireland and know Irish music and performance can’t believe he’s coming here. It’s a great opportunity for people to see an international star.” 

            The performance is the final event of SRU’s 2008-2009 Performing Arts Series. 

            Dublin’s Traditional Irish Cabaret offers a family-friendly blend of Irish dance, ballads and tunes. Dancers will captivate audiences as they twirl and tap to the musical accompaniment of accordion, guitar, piano and uileann pipes.

            Ginnity, who has been performing for 30 years, is the star of the show, Baker said. He has appeared throughout Ireland and England, including headline shows at the Royal Albert Hall.  He has appeared on television and radio worldwide and was honored at a reception in 2002 given by Mary McAleese, the president of Ireland. 

            Ailbe Grace, an All-Ireland Champion Accordion Player, will play. He began performing at age 6 and has appeared many times on Ireland’s national television station. 

            The dancers were hand picked by producer Stuart O’Connor from all over Ireland. These dancers include All-Ireland Champions and have entertained in Europe and the U.S. Several of the dancers joined the company from prestigious Irish shows such as “Riverdance,” “Lord of The Dance” and “Gael Force.”

            While the Dublin groups caps SRU’s Performing Arts Series, a special bonus event for families, the children’s musical “If You Give a Pig a Pancake and Other Story Books,” will be performed at 7 p.m. May 15 in Miller Auditorium. For tickets, $8 each, call 724.738.2091.
