» 'Kaleidoscope on Main' promises entertainment for all
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – “Kaleidoscope on Main” Saturday will feature the best of local and regional bands, an artists market with 40 artists, plant sales, children’s activities, food and more. The annual collaboration between Slippery Rock University and the town of Slippery Rock is part of the University’s Kaleidoscope arts festival, which ends Sunday.

» Good News: 4/13/09: Messer records 750th win
Jeff Messer, Slippery Rock University head baseball coach, recorded his 750th career victory last Saturday when The Rock defeated Mercyhurst College, 13-9 in Jack Critchfield Park.

» SRU plans alternative commencement for students returned from Mexico
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The 22 Slippery Rock University students who returned from Mexico City Tuesday following their student-teaching experience are considering a number of alternative ceremonies to mark their college graduation amid health concerns following their possible exposure to the swine flu virus.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Lou Slautterback, Slippery Rock University physical education instructor, and Bernie Hoffman, national legal consultant and SRU adjunct professor, headline the University’s College of Education’s Third Annual Student Teaching and Supervision Conference May 14-16.

» Kappa Sigma, alumni, SRU faculty take on Steelers for charity
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University faculty and staff along with current and alumni members of Kappa Sigma fraternity will take on the Pittsburgh Steelers at 8 p.m. May 6 in Morrow Field House. However, to make the competition a bit more fair, the game will be basketball – not football.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Feast your eyes on “Fluffy the Guinea Pig,” “Princess Elizabeth, ”  “Horace and Morris” and many other children’s characters and delight as they come to life when Theatreworks USA presents the musical “If You Give a Pig a Pancake & Other Story Books” at 7 p.m. May 15 in Slippery Rock University’s Miller Auditorium.

» SRU students shine at Rising Star Awards
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. ­– Eight Slippery Rock University students have been named Rising Stars for 2009 and have had an actual star named for them. AVI Foodsystems Inc., the campus contact food vendor, purchased seven stars. The SRU Alumni Association purchased one.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University is installing a $100,000 air quality and meteorological observatory at the eastern edge of campus. Students will be able to conduct high-quality research on ozone levels and air pollutants, gaining insight into air quality and helping them lead more environmentally aware lives.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – An estimated 200 Slippery Rock University students stayed up until 2 a.m. having fun last Nov. 21 in the second annual “Up ’til 2’ event for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. – and raised $17,470 in the process.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Using a nautical theme based on the book and film “The Perfect Storm,” Slippery Rock University President Robert Smith said the University is facing high seas, gale-force winds and rocky shores, but “when a ship is at sea, it is not the force of the gales nor the howling of the wind that moves it along its path. It is people on the deck, at the helm and pulling together that preserves the ship and assures its course.”

» SRU launches $10-million student data system upgrade
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University has launched a $10-million, multi-year Student Information System Project that will replace the University’s nearly 40-year-old mainframe computer system and provide a cohesive data processing system as well as new infrastructure expected to meet University needs.

» SRU trustees hear 2006-07 alumni pleased with education
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Ninety-eight percent of Slippery Rock University graduates from the 2006-07 class rate the quality of their education as “Good” or “Excellent” according to a Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Survey, SRU President Robert Smith told the University’s Council of Trustees today.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – “Hercules,” Slippery Rock University’s student-operated robot, is a box-shaped automaton that uses lasers, sonar, bumper sensors and a camera to move about an Artificial Intelligence Lab. He plays follow the leader, picks up trash – and he comes in peace.

» Tsuquiashi-Daddesio becomes interim humanities dean at SRU
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –Eva Tsuquiashi-Daddesio, Slippery Rock University professor of modern languages and cultures, has been named interim dean of the College of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts.  She has taught French and Spanish at SRU since 1988 and served as chairperson of the department of modern languages and cultures since 2005.

» Cow Paddy Bingo supports SRU's Forgotten Angels' project
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University's Student Athletes for Forgotten Angels organization will sponsor a Cow Paddy Bingo event from 2-5 p.m. Sunday on the soccer practice fields at the intersection of Harmony and Kiester road at the east end of campus.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University Alumni Association will honor this year’s Outstanding Senior Man and the Outstanding Senior Woman, the 2009 Young Alumni Award Recipients and 18 scholarship recipients at its annual recognition awards banquet Saturday.
