Kappa Sigma, alumni, SRU faculty take on Steelers for charity

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University faculty and staff along with current and alumni members of Kappa Sigma fraternity will take on the Pittsburgh Steelers at 8 p.m. May 6 in Morrow Field House. However, to make the competition a bit more fair, the game will be basketball – not football.

The event is a fundraiser sponsored by the fraternity with proceeds going toward the $100,000 goal of the national fraternity that is helping raise funds for the Maryland-based Fisher House Fallen Heroes program.

Fisher House programs help injured U.S. military personnel and their families by providing a place for the soldier and his or her family to live during hospitalization and rehabilitation.

Adam Peconi, a community health major from Jefferson Hills, said seven to 10 Steeler players available May 6 will travel to SRU to take on the faculty in full-court basketball.

The SRU team will include, Greg Sferra, director of campus recreation; John Craig, professor of history; Eric Tuten, assistant professor of history; Jeffrey Figel, refrigeration mechanic in facilities and planning; Mark Chase, associate professor of communication; and Jim Yeamans, coordinator of aquatic operation in Campus Recreation. Also joining in the home squad will be current members and alumni from Kappa Sigma.

Admission is $7 and autographs will be available.
